About Janet:

Janet Adrie (Baglien) Baken was born in St. John’s Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota on January 8, 1932.  She grew up in Leeds, ND, where she attended grade school and high school.  Janet represented her school at Girl’s State and also graduated valedictorian of her high school class.

While at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, Janet worked in the campus cafeteria to help defray the school costs.  She was also a clarinet soloist in the concert band and a homecoming queen attendant during her senior year.  Janet graduated with a home economics major from Concordia and earned a biology minor from San Jose State University.

Most of Janet’s teaching career was in Kennedy High School in Fremont, California as the home economics teacher.  Janet loved to teach, and her students enjoyed her classes.  To say that she was a good cook would be an understatement, and her quilting was beautiful.

After retiring from teaching, Janet worked for Cranmer Engineering in Grass Valley, CA.  She also learned how to fly single engine land aircraft.  There’s always something new to learn.

Janet passed away at Ashton Court Rehab Center in Liberty, Missouri on August 19, 2020 at the age of 89.  Along with her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her daughter Kari.  Survivors include her husband Don, to whom she was married 66 years; her children Adrie Schupp and Grant Baken; grandchildren Kira, Matthew, Nick and Jack; and five great-grandchildren.
