About Karen:
August 29, 1941- April 17 2025

Karen Marie Bruns, 83, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025. Karen was born in Waterloo, Iowa on August 29, 1941, to Arthur Louis Bruns and Irene Marie Bruns, and was the youngest sister of Joann Ruth (Bruns) Natomeli and Dennis Edwin Bruns. The family eventually moved to Colorado Springs where Karen graduated from Colorado Springs High School in 1959.
After earning a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching from Midland College (Nebraska) in 1963, Karen traveled around the U.S. for three years as a spokesperson for her sorority Beta Sigma Phi to recruit new members. She began her teaching career at Sycamore Elementary School in New York, followed by settling in Missouri where she invested her life teaching the gifted and talented 3rd & 4th grade students in the Independence School District. Karen loved teaching and was a storyteller whose ability to communicate with children fostered the imaginations of thousands throughout her long career.
Anyone who knew Karen knows that she loved her dogs, enjoyed the art of Native American tribes and being in the Colorado mountains.

Known as ‘Auntie Karen’ to her 5 nieces and nephews, she enjoyed keeping in touch over the years and across the miles through a steady stream of cards and notes. They always enjoyed simply spending time with her at family reunions in Colorado and laughing with her about a wide range of topics.

Karen loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a life-long active member of the Lutheran Church; including most recently with her much-loved friends at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Liberty, Missouri.
