About Laura:
July 5, 1941 - October 7, 2026​

Laura Jane Pfennig Canuteson was born in
Seguin, Texas, on July 5, 1941, to Robert and
Laura Pfennig. She graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1963. For the next fifteen years, she was a social worker in five states: Texas, Illinois, Wisconsin, Florida, and Missouri.
She went back for educational certification and taught kindergarten from 1981 to 2001. She used the Montessori method to develop centers for children to work at, rather than stay in their seats, and was named Excelsior Springs Teacher of the Year in 1998.
She is survived by her husband John Allen; son Gregory Brian; daughter-in-law Nadezhda; granddaughters Brennan Elizabeth, Natalie Ann (Gavin Kiger), and Katherine Anastasia; and great-grandchild Callan Ellis Canuteson-Kiger. Her son Eric Leif died in 2011.
She spent her life in loving service to family and children.​
