In Memory of Fred Kinney

November 22, 1936 to January 6, 2021

About Fred:

 

Frederick Marvin Kinney was born in Minneapolis, MN on November 22, 1936 to Marvin Kinney and Helen Nelson (Kinney) Vinson. On August 14, 1960, he married Joyce Peggy Pleiss. They had four sons, Jeffery, John, Steven and Daniel.

 

Fred graduated from Central High School in Minneapolis, MN in 1954, and soon after enlisted in the United States Navy. He served during the Cold War being assigned duty on the USS Coral Sea. Following his service in the Navy, Fred attended Mankato State College in Mankato, MN and graduated in May of 1959 with a BS in Industrial Education. In 1962-64 he taught Industrial Arts at Grand Meadow High School (MN) and coached the high school wrestling team. From 1964-1972 Fred taught Industrial Arts at Austin High School (MN); and after receiving his degree in Health Education, he taught Health Education there until his retirement in 1995. During those years he was an assistant wrestling coach at AHS; head wrestling coach at Austin Community College (MN) for several years; and taught driver education.

 

Fred loved woodworking projects at home, and enjoyed golfing, camping and traveling around the US with his family and friends. He was active with his church families at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Austin, MN and Hosanna! Lutheran Church in Liberty, MO -- serving on property and maintenance committees. Fred also worked on several Habitat for Humanity projects in the Austin, MN area.

On Wednesday, January 6, 2021, Fred passed away at age 84.  He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin; his mother, Helen; his infant son, Jeffery; his son, Daniel; and his step-brother, Mike.

 

Fred is survived by his wife, Joyce; 2 children, John and Steve; daughter in-laws Sarah, Anita, and Ann; his brother Brian; his step-mother Anna; step-sisters Mary, Kathy, and Karen; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Arrangements

Fred's family held a private family service at the funeral home on Saturday, January 9.  A recording of that brief service is available here on the Hidden Valley Funeral Home Facebook page.  

A burial service for Fred's ashes will be scheduled for later in the spring at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Kearney, Missouri.
